Process and Reflections
I created this plate as a slab imprinted with bubble wrap. I really liked the effect this created as it reminded me of the hexagonal shapes in honeycomb. I then shaped the lip of the plate by pinching up the edges.

After bisque firing, I used yellow, orange, and red underglazes, and gently brushed over the textured areas, leaving some parts of the pattern as the raw clay to accentuate the honeycomb pattern. The colours were based on the golden yellow and orange colours of honeycomb. The piece was finished with a transparent glaze.

Overall, I really enjoyed experimenting with textures and decoration on this plate and I'm very pleased with the outcome. This was the first time I used a Raku clay and I did struggle with the grittiness and texture, especially in smoothing the underside of the piece. Nonetheless, I do like the additional texture that this clay gives the plate and I look forward to using it more in the future.
